I probably turn down 3-4 speaking engagements each week, but do - where possible - try to bring to a wider world some of my learnings, successes & failures at King of Shaves. With both my parents being teachers, I try to work (where possible) with a young audience, or in other cases - on strategic issues I believe to be important and relevant to anyone starting up, or in business in the UK.
Running a product based business, I am increasingly making fewer, larger & more strategic decisions - and am also able to spend time looking at our NPD flow for the next 2-5 years (NPD = New Product Design). I've been reading Steve Jobs' biography - which has been fantastic - as the way we work on 'New' seems to complement the way Steve Jobs' & Jony Ive worked on 'New' too. Although we're smaller (way smaller) our opportunities are equally as compelling as theirs were.
Last Monday, I keynoted for the Bucks Enterprise Festival sponsored by Wycombe District Council & Bucks New University; the next few days see me:
- Monday, talking at a breakfast meeting on SME Bonds courtesy NESTA, along with the CEO of the London Stock Exchange details here followed by interviews.
- Tuesday, talking to 200 students in Norwich at their Futures Event in the morning.
- Wednesday, keynoting at the Shell LIVEWIRE 'Live' Young Entrepreneur day.
- Thursday, keynoting at the 'Art of... Communication' conference at the Sage, Gateshead
and the following week, along with two board meetings, I'm giving 2 presentations at the Business Startup Show at Earls Court and on Friday, having a 'lunch with advice' for a top entrepreneur, which a leading business magazine is covering. Oh, and on the Monday I'm at the Growing Business Awards in the evening (King of Shaves won this a couple years ago).
People may think 'so who's running King of Shaves' - well - being #OnTheGrid is so easy these days, as long as my core management team are on top of their game, I can be top of mine - spreading the Word of Mouth about our company, vision & mission in a new #WorldOfMouse fashion
Maybe I'll see YOU in one of the audiences? I hope so!
I saw you on Thursday at the Business Startup show and your presentation was very interesting and very inspiring. Petty the PA system kept cutting out :o). P.S your shaving lotion is amazing always get a nice clean shave...
